What are Tourbillons?

In 1801, Abraham-Louis Breguet invented the tourbillon as a solution to counteract the effects of gravity on pocket watches. His invention used a rotating cage in which the balance wheel and escapement rotate at such high speeds (about 90 rotations per minute) that they seem stationary. In addition, most Swiss watches utilize three tourbillons on one axis to compensate for any gravitational forces. These complex mechanisms are the epitome of horological mastery; now you know why these timepieces can sell for upwards of USD 300,000.

How Do They Work?

Tourbillons were invented in the 18th century, and most watchmakers dismissed the complication as something for collectors. Instead, an excellent first tourbillon watch should have a crucial purpose: balancing the escapement (or seconds pendulum) so it doesn't disrupt its power with each movement. If a beautiful timepiece has no inherent function, it's not worth owning - don't waste your money on something just for show.

Nowadays, we must be more mindful about spending our money because life can get expensive. But in the end, you'll be happy you spent your hard-earned cash on something that does more than tell time; it will make you feel accomplished every day because you've worked hard to make this happen. And what do people want more than anything? To feel accomplished.

Who Makes Them?

Many people are unaware that the Guinand & Soehne Swiss Watchmakers are the creators of the best first tourbillon watch. This renowned Swiss timepiece has won praise for being one of the most beautifully crafted and celebrated watches in recent memory. After three years of designing and refining this new style, Guinand & Soehne has created a masterpiece that is truly unlike any other in its elegance, precision, and craftsmanship.

The word tourbillon refers to an 18th-century invention that counters the effects of gravity on a mechanical escapement. Guinand & Soehne's ingenious use of this technology produces an unequaled result: an unprecedented level of accuracy, performance, and beauty combined with ultimate reliability for perfect precision over long periods.
